Mark Samuel Ross, Esq.

 
 

EMPLOYMENT:  Mark Samuel Ross was admitted to practice law in New Jersey in 1983 and  has been engaged in the private practice of law since that time.  At  that time he was also admitted to practice before the U.S. District  Court for the District of New Jersey.  In 1989 he was admitted to the  practice law in the State of New York. 


             In addition to being an attorney, Mark is also a licensed funeral  director and is the Manager of Ross’ Shalom Chapels, a funeral home he  founded in 2011 with his wife Robin and which currently maintains  facilities in Springfield, Chatham and Whippany, New Jersey.  Mark is a  graduate of the American Academy-McAllister Institute of Funeral Service  in New York City where he also taught business and mortuary law. He was  also a co-owner and the secretary-treasurer of Menorah Chapels at  Millburn from 1992-2011. Mark is authorized by the New Jersey Board of  Mortuary Science to teach 12 continuing education courses for a total of  24 credits in funeral service. 


EDUCATION: Mark  holds a Juris Doctorate from the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law of  Yeshiva University, New York City, a  Bachelor of Arts. with honors in  Political Science and Hebraic Studies from Rutgers University, and a  Diploma from the American Academy McAllister Insitute of Funeral  Service, New York City.

PROFESSIONAL ACTIVITIES: Mark  is a member of the New Jersey and Union County Bar Associations.  Mark  served as counsel to the Committee For Consumer Protection from  1983-2012, The Foundation for Jewish Arts and Heritage, 1986-2012 and  the Ross Kidney Foundation from 1986-2012.  Mark is also a member of the  National, New Jersey and Essex-Union-Hudson Funeral Directors  Association.  Mark has been invited to lecture on the subject of  mortuary law at several programs for the Institute For Continuing Legal  Education on the subject of mortuary law and  estate  planning.

COMMUNITY SERVICE: Mark  is currently serving on the Board of Directors of B'nai B'rith  International, its' Executive Committee, and as the President of its' Tri-State Region  (Northern-Central New Jersey, Southern New York State and Eastern  Pennsylvania).  Mark also serves as a member of the United Synagogue for  Conservative Judaism, Mid-Atlantic District Board for New Jersey,  Delaware and Eastern PA..  He was the secretary of the N.J. Region from  2007 to 2010.  He has served as President of Temple Beth Ahm Yisrael in  Springfield, N.J. from 1992-1994 and is currently a permanent Trustee of  the synagogue.  In 2005 Mark participated in the March Of The Living commemorating the 60th  anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz concentration camp in  Poland.  He was the president and founder of the Novat Singles Unit of  B’nai B’rith. He is also a member of the Men’s Club of Temple Beth Ahm  Yisrael, Springfield, N.J., the Knights of Pythias, the International  Order Of Odd Fellows and the Alumni Associations of both Rutgers  University and the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law of Yeshiva  University, Pi Sigma Alpha National Political Science Honor Society, as  well as the Pi Lambda Phi fraternity.


HONORS AND AWARDS: In 2008 Mark received the Alumni Award from the New Jersey Region of United Synagogue for Conservative Judaism.  He was named Man Of The Year  in 2001 by Temple Beth Ahm Yisrael, Springfield, N.J. and by  Springfield B’nai B’rith in 1995.  He has also received the B’nai B’rith  International Citizenship and Civic Affairs Award in 1991 and their  Founders Award in 1981.  In 2018 Mark was again honored by B'nai B'rith with its Keter Shem Tov (Master of a Good Name) award in recognition of his continuing efforts on behalf of the local and international charity. Mark is listed in Who’s Who In The World, Who’s Who In America and Who’s Who In American Law (various editions).
